“It is clear to me that I don’t need to tell anyone anything about these pieces. The best thing I can do is give them permission to answer their own questions.” ‒ John Himmelfarb

John Himmelfarb (1946‒) was born in Chicago to artist parents, Sam and Eleanor Himmelfarb. Although his childhood was immersed in art, he did not return to the field seriously until late in his collegiate career at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Over his career, he has explored drawing, painting, printing, and sculpture, and his exuberant Modernist, idiosyncratic style has garnered significant critical acclaim.

His artworks can be found in distinguished international collections including the Art Institute of Chicago; the Baltimore Art Museum; the British Museum, London; the Boston Public Library Print Collection; the Cleveland Museum of Art; the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the University of Michigan Art Museum, Ann Arbor.
